Kilbroney Forest Park Rostrevor:

woodland and Public Park providing
riverside walks, football pitches,
Tennis Courts, barbecue, picnic and
children’s play areas and restaurant.
Carlingford Lough: George Bernard Shaw
summed it well in declaring Carlingford
Bay as "more beautiful than the Bay of
Naples and nature has smiled kindly on
it".
Cranfield Bay: (6
miles East. A2) - Nearest sandy beach
- blue flag quality – suitable for
swimming and water activities.
Silent Valley Reservoir:
(15 miles North) - Harnessed as
a reservoir to capture the sparkling
waters cascading from the surrounding
Mournes and supplying domestic water to
Belfast. The valley features a
three-mile scenic trek to enable access
to the spectacular Dam and Mourne Wall.
Public entry is by foot or shuttle bus.
Castlewellan Forest Park:
(22 miles away) - Nature walking, fishing,
canoeing, Maze.
Downpatrick & Co Down Railway:
(34 miles away) – 3km of track –
the only full size railway museum operating
steam and diesel locomotives.
Down County Museum -
Located in the restored Old County Gaol of
Down. Relates the Rebellion of 1798 (United
Irishmen) Many were imprisoned and hanged
there – the most renowned being Russell –
“the man from God knows where”
Armagh Planetarium: (28
miles away) World famous astronomical forum.
Armagh Cathedrals: Both
deserve a visit to experience their history,
design and architecture. Built among the
seven hills, each is the seat of Arch Bishop
of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland for
their respective Catholic and Church of
Ireland faiths. Just inside the door of the
Protestant Cathedral the visitor can view
the resting place of Brian Boru, the last
High King of Ireland. “it bears in the heart
of its bosum the ashes of Brian Boru”.
